What is the Botox®/Xeomin® Process?

At your appointment, we’ll evaluate your muscles and mark precise injection sites. Using a fine needle, a small amount of Botox or Xeomin is injected directly into the targeted muscles. For TMJ-related issues, this usually includes the jaw muscles responsible for clenching and grinding. For esthetics, injections are placed in areas such as the forehead, frown lines, or crow’s feet. The process takes only a few minutes, and most patients notice improvement within a few weeks, with results lasting 3–4 months.

What is the difference between Botox and Xeomin?

Both are neurotoxins that temporarily relax muscles and smooth away lines and wrinkles. Botox is the injectable we use most often in our practice, as it is considered the gold standard for both cosmetic and therapeutic applications. Xeomin is very similar in formula, but does not contain proteins that some individuals may be sensitive to. If you have a protein sensitivity, Xeomin can give you excellent results without risking a reaction to any proteins.

Do Botox or Xeomin injections hurt?

You will feel a slight stinging or pinching sensation with each injection. Most people compare it to a bee sting.

What is recovery like after treatment?

There is little to no downtime. Most patients can return to their normal day immediately after treatment. You may experience mild redness or bruising at the injection sites, but these typically fade quickly. If the area is tender, applying an ice pack and taking an over-the-counter pain reliever can help.

How long will my Botox/Xeomin treatment last?

For most patients, the effects last three to four months, but depending on your metabolism and other variables, it could last as long as six months. The good news is, the longer you use it, the longer the effect of each treatment tends to last.
